The Nevada Police Department is now accepting applications for our 2017 Citizens Police Academy scheduled to begin on April 5, 2017. This program provides citizens with an inside look at the operations of their police department. The program is a lecture and interactive based program to allow the citizen to view community policing from the law enforcement perspective.

The program will continue for eight weeks, meeting every Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm beginning April 5th through May 24th. Most classes will be held at the Nevada Police Department.

Applications can be obtained at the Nevada Police Department or at www.nevadamo.gov  and will be accepted now through March 29th.

The program will cover a variety of topics including:

  • Department Orientation
  • 911 Communications and Emergency Dispatching
  • Jail Tour
  • Traffic Stop Interactive Training
  • Criminal Law
  • Domestic Violence
  • Sex Offenses
  • Animal Control
  • Criminal Scene Investigation
  • Traffic Enforcement
  • Drug Recognition
  • Neighborhood Watch
  • Crisis Intervention Team (CIT)

Applicant requirements:

  • Complete a citizens police academy application to attend
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • No felony convictions
  • No domestic violence, drug, or violent crime arrest
  • Must be able to perform light physical activity
  • Dress will be casual unless advised otherwise in advance by the instructor

All materials needed for the class will be provided by the Nevada Police Department

To compost Center from City Hall: South on Ash, East on Maple over railroad curves back south(right) and compost center will be on the right hand side of road.

1st and 3rd Saturday 8:00-Noon *Weather Permitting*

Items Collected:

  • Tree limbs/branches
  • Grass Clippings
  • Leaves (Must be removed from bagging)
  • Wood chips & compost free to public ( Must provide container)

Annual Father/Daughter Dance – UPDATED January 27, 2017

The fifth Annual Father/Daughter Dance will be held on February 4th, 2017, from 6-8 pm at Franklin P. Norman City/County Community Center.  This event has historically drawn a large crowd.  This year, attendance is on track to possibly exceed the occupancy maximum of the facility. Those planning to attend are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance. Tickets are available at the Community Center Monday thru Friday 6 am to 9 pm, Saturday 9 am to 9 pm, and Sunday 12pm to 9pm for $5 per adult. Please note that tickets may not be available at the door the night of the event if attendance exceeds the occupancy maximum of the facility. Please call ahead with questions.

The event is hosted by the Nevada Parks and Recreation Department.

Tiaras, Cinderella dresses, party shoes, and glitter…what little girl doesn’t dream of being a princess? And, who better to be her knight in shining armor than her father!

The fifth annual Father/Daughter Dance will be held on February 4, 2017 from 6 to 8 pm at the Franklin P Norman Community Center, 200 N Ash. Nevada, Missouri. This will be an opportunity for dads or a favorite male role model to show their little girls how it feels to be a princess even if just for one magical evening. Girls of all ages are welcome.

The event is hosted by the Nevada Parks and Recreation Department.

The cost of a ticket is $5 for a father and as many daughters as he wants to bring. A male role model may also stand in for those whose father is unavailable.
