Public Transportation Driver/ Part-Time

The City of Nevada is currently accepting applications for a part-time Public Transportation Driver.  Primary duties are to provide safe and secure transport of passengers utilizing the City’s public transportation vehicles.  Qualifications include graduate from high school or G.E.D. equivalent, three years’ experience driving a private or commercial vehicles is preferred, and must and a valid State of Missouri Class E (chauffeur) driver’s license.  Must be able to read, write, and communicate clearly.

This position reports to the Administrative Services Director.

Some of the essential functions of this position include:

  • Receive phone calls from customers to schedule transport and return calls as necessary.
  • Provide door-through-door pick-up and drop-off of all customers.
  • Collect vouchers for transportation services; ensuring vouchers are valid and unexpired
  • Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner; create a pleasant environment for the passengers during their ride.
  • Assist customers into the vehicle as necessary, ensuring that customers wear their seat belts and children/infants are seated and belted properly in car seat.
  • Transport customers to and from locations in a safe and timely manner.
  • Map out routes to and from specified destinations, identifying the fastest route.  Determine the order of routes when transporting more than one customer to different destinations.
  • Log in every trip throughout the day, ensuring all required information has been written and is legible before turning it in at the end of each day.
  • Comply with State of Missouri traffic laws.
  • Wheelchair Van Drivers will transport clients in a wheelchair up or down ramps; ensure client’s wheelchair has been safely tied down and secured.

The starting wage for this position is $9.16 an hour.

Twin Lakes Clubhouse Attendant

The City of Nevada Parks and Recreation Department is currently accepting job applications for part-time position of Twin Lakes Clubhouse Attendant.  This position assists the manager with all duties related to the Clubhouse.  Eligible applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, some experience working in a recreational area, and be at least 21 years of age.

Applicants must be able to work a variable schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Some of the duties of this position include:

  • Runs the cash register, restocks shelves, completes basic bookwork, assists in the pro shop, and works with the public.
  • Assists manager with tournament operations.
  • Organizes scorecards, rule sheets, and skins as needed.
  • Participates in safety meetings.
  • Completes basic incident reports.
  • Gets and puts away golf carts.
  • Washes range balls.
  • Performs basic janitorial services to clubhouse and sweeps sidewalks.

Parks Maintenance Laborers / Seasonal

The City of Nevada Parks & Recreation Department is currently accepting job applications for seasonal part-time positions of Parks Maintenance Laborers.  Eligible applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and be at least 18 years of age.

Applicants should be able to work a variable schedule, including some weekends and holidays.

Some of the duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Mow and trim all city parks and recreational facilities, including Community Center and swimming pool
  • Cleans grounds and keeps buildings and equipment located on public property in good and safe condition
  • Makes minor repairs to equipment
  • Performs minor construction and repair projects on park grounds
  • Cultivates and maintains plants, flowers, bushes, and trees
  • Uses equipment that requires higher skills as assigned
  • Assists other departments in other activities as condition and needs apply
  • Moves objects in excess of 100 pounds

The starting wage for this position is $7.70 an hour.

Pool Managers/Lifeguards

The City of Nevada is currently accepting applications for the following summer seasonal positions at the Walton Aquatic Center:

  • Managers (2 positions) – $8.35 per hour
  • Lifeguards (32 positions) – $7.75 per hour

Other Aquatic Center positions will be advertised at a later date.

All positions will be required to work a flexible schedule.  Eligible applicants must be at least 15 years of age.

Lifeguards will be required to have their American Red Cross Certification prior to employment.  The Joplin Family YMCA offers both recertification and full certification classes (http://joplinfamilyy.org/social-responsibility/page/lifeguard-certification) and we will have more information about classes offered by Ms. Chasity Ware in Fort Scott as she makes it available.

For those previously lifeguard certified, check your expiration date.  Lifeguard certification is only valid for two (2) years.  CPR/PR certification expiration has changed. For those previously CPR/PR certified, you will need to check your expiration on this as well.

Firefighter / Part-Time

Police Officer

The City of Nevada Police Department is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.  The starting wage for this position is $31,886 per year. Parks & Recreation Director

The City of Nevada, Missouri (pop 8,300) is currently accepting applications for a Parks & Recreation Director.  This position is responsible for 11 parks spanning over 500 acres, a 60,000 square foot community center, aquatic center, skate park, and a sports complex consisting of an 18-hole golf course and softball/baseball fields.  The director supervises 8 full-time staff, 20 part-time staff and over 45 seasonal employees.  This position manages a $1.4 Million budget funded in part by a permanent park sales tax and reports to the City Manager.

Requirements for this position include:  a Bachelor’s degree with extensive coursework in a recreational field and five years professional experience, with at least three years of supervisory or management experience.  Willing to consider extensive management experience in recreation in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.

Some of the primary and essential functions of this job include but are not limited to:

  • Plan and direct municipal recreation programs, including the Community Center, Aquatic Center, and Twin Lakes Sports Complex
  • Direct the maintenance and planning of the City parks system
  • Manages the operation of the Community Center, Aquatic Center, Twin Lakes Sports Complex and the parks maintenance workers and their staff
  • Maintains the files and records of the department
  • Oversees the scheduling of all activities at the facilities
  • Prepares the annual budget
  • Acts as the liaison to the City Park Board and issues notices for meetings, prepares materials for meetings, and implements policies established by the board.

The salary range for this position is $44,571-58,686, DOQ, and includes excellent benefits.
