Seasonal Parks Maintenance Laborers / 4 positions

The City of Nevada Parks & Recreation Department is currently accepting job applications for seasonal part-time positions of Parks Maintenance Laborers.  Eligible applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and be at least 18 years of age.

Applicants should be able to work a variable schedule, including some weekends and holidays.

Some of the duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Operate mowers, trimmers and other motorized equipment for the purpose of mowing and trimming all city parks and recreational facilities, including Community Center, Walton Aquatic Center, and Twin Lakes golf course
  • Cleans grounds and keeps buildings and equipment located on city property in good and safe working conditions
  • Assists with minor upkeep and repairs to equipment, mower blades and hand tools
  • Performs minor construction and repair projects on park grounds
  • Performs landscaping duties including cultivation and maintenance of plants, flowers, bushes, and trees
  • Assists with preparation of various sites for special events
  • Assists other departments in other activities as condition and needs apply
  • Moves objects in excess of 100 pounds

The starting wage for this position is $8.00 an hour.

Twin Lakes Maintenance Laborers / 3 positions

The City of Nevada Parks & Recreation Department is currently accepting job applications for part-time positions of Twin Lakes Maintenance Laborers.  Eligible applicants must possess a high school diploma or the equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and be at least 18 years of age.  Persons with experience with grounds keeping preferred. Outdoor environment requires more than ordinary walking and other physical activities, exposure to natural elements including heat, dust, insects, and to chemicals used in preparing and treating golf course surfaces.

Applicants should be able to work a variable schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Some of the duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Mows and trims grass and maintains shrubbery and trees
  • Operates equipment to maintain facilities
  • Uses equipment calling for higher skills as required
  • Assists in keeping buildings and grounds clean and orderly
  • Performs minor repairs and adjustments to equipment
  • Performs minor construction and repairs projects at Twin Lakes
  • Paints and maintains buildings
  • Repairs and sharpens mower blades and hand tools
  • Performs landscaping duties
  • Assists or performs maintenance on greens and tee box areas
  • Assists in the operation of irrigation system and its upkeep and repairs
  • Moves objects weighing up to 100 pounds

The starting wage for this position is $8.89 hourly.

Walton Aquatic Center Lifeguards

The City of Nevada is currently accepting applications for the following summer seasonal positions at the Walton Aquatic Center:

  • Lifeguards (30 positions) – $8.00 per hour
  • Head Lifeguards (will select from returning lifeguard applicants) – $8.25

Other Aquatic Center positions will be advertised at a later date

  • All positions will be required to work a flexible schedule. Eligible applicants must be at least 15 years of age.
  • Lifeguards and Managers will be required to have their American Red Cross Certification prior to employment.  We are currently compiling information for certification courses in the area to be made available during the interview process.
  • For those previously certified, check your certification’s expiration date.  Lifeguard certification is only valid for two (2) years, and we are also working on information about recertification courses to be available during the interview process.

Police Officer

The City of Nevada Police Department is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.  The starting wage for this position is $32,564 per year. It is a full time position, and includes full benefits such as retirement, health, dental, vision and life insurance as well as paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.  The Police Department also participates in a take-home vehicle program for its officers.

Eligible applicants must have a high school diploma or the equivalent, a valid Missouri driver’s license, should be at least 21 years of age, P.O.S.T certified by the State of Missouri, and successfully pass a background investigation.

This position requires residency to be within 35 miles of the police department.
