Facilities Maintenance Laborer

The City of Nevada is currently accepting applications for a full time Facilities Maintenance Laborer.  Primary duties are comprised of performing skilled and semi-skilled work in constructing and maintenance of City facilities.  Qualifications include graduate from high school or G.E.D. equivalent, two years’ experience in construction and maintenance activities, and ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.

This position reports to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

Some of the essential functions of this position include:

  • Perform repairs on buildings and other facilities, including minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and telecommunications repairs.
  • Assist in construction and remodeling projects
  • Assist in installation and repair of telecommunications equipment including telephones, cabling (including fiber optic cable), video cameras and equipment, and mobile radio equipment.

The starting wage for this position is $13.94 an hour.  This position includes full benefits such as retirement, health, dental, vision, and life insurance as well as paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.

Firefighter

Lt. Equipment Operator

The City of Nevada is currently accepting applications for a Light Equipment Operator for construction of the water distribution and sewer collection systems and street work.

The applicant must be able to operate light equipment, (and heavy equipment when needed), perform the skilled and semi-skilled labor associated with the job requirements and perform other job functions as required. Job duties include but are not restricted to:

  • Perform semi-skilled to skilled work with skid steer, trencher, jackhammer, compactor, compressor, and other equipment of comparable size
  • Operate heavy and other equipment calling for higher levels of skill as required and at the supervisor’s discretion
  • Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, climb, twist, kneel and reach both to ground level and overhead; lifts and carries up to 100 pounds and /or pushes up to 150 pounds as required
  • Assist in the construction of the water distribution system and sewer collection system; and repairing, installation, and maintenance of the City streets
  • Ability to work effectively with supervisors, employees and the public
  • May be required to work weekends or a variety of shifts, subject to call out on emergencies as needed 24 hours a day-year round, and may be on call as directed by the Field Operations Manager
  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), class B with air brakes, from the State of Missouri, or the ability to obtain one within a year of hire date

Water Treatment Plant Operator / Class B-D Licenses

The City of Nevada is currently accepting applications for an Operator with a Class B-D water license at our Water Treatment Plant.  Primary duties are operating and checking the automatic and manual operations of the Reverse Osmosis Treatment process.  Applicants should have one year of experience in water treatment plant operations, and possess a valid driver’s license. The applicant should also hold a Missouri class “D” water operator’s license or above.  If not, must be able to obtain one within twelve months of employment.

Some duties of this position include:

  • Monitors and regulates chemicals used in the process to fall within regulations.
  • Pulls samples and runs lab tests requiring ability to distinguish colors
  • Regulates and monitors the distribution system flows, pumps, and levels in the clear wells and towers
  • Rebuilds pumps, chlorinators, piping, valves, and injectors as necessary
  • Changes filters when needed
  • Performs a 12 hour cleaning process
  • Maintains grounds and building
  • Keeps logs current on lab tests, chemical adjustments, etc.
  • Monitors flows and keeps log on fire plugs usage
  • Assists in the training of plant operators assigned to the plant
  • Files, enters data, handles problems, and other general tasks
  • Moves objects in excess of 150 pounds
  • Performs duties working around Hazardous materials
  • The applicant should have basic computer skills and the ability to maintain both electronic and written logs and documents.
  • Individuals with an understanding of basic mechanical skills are also preferred.
  • At this time, this is a 3rd shift position. Must be able to work overnights Saturday thru Thursday, 11 p.m. – 7 a.m.

Cleaning & Inspections Laborer / Public Works

The City of Nevada is currently accepting applications for a Cleaning & Inspections Service Worker for the sewer system.

The applicant must be able to assist with all work necessary for the operation, investigation, inspection, maintenance, repair and rehabilitation of the sanitary sewer system.  Job duties include but are not restricted to:

Community Center Attendant

The City of Nevada Parks & Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for a part-time attendant position at the Community Center.  This position requires the ability to work a flex schedule, 7 days per week and will carry out customer/public service duties.
