Animal Shelter Assistant / Part-time

The City of Nevada is currently accepting job applications for a part-time position of Animal Shelter Assistant.  Eligible applicants must possess a high school diploma or the equivalent and be at least 18 years of age.  Applicants to be considered should also have experience in the handling and care of domestic and non-domestic animals and good verbal and written communication skills.

Some of the duties of this position include: 

  • Care and feeding of animals
  • Maintenance of animal shelter, equipment and facilities
  • Animal adoption processing
  • Assisting in animal health care procedures
  • Preparation of reports and other documentation for record keeping 

Primary work days are weekends as well as fill-in hours to cover other shifts on an “as-needed” basis.  

The starting wage for this position is $15.00 an hour.

Equipment Operator

The City of Nevada is currently accepting applications for an Equipment Operator for construction of the water distribution and sewer collection systems and street work.

The Equipment Operator performs semi-skilled work in the operation of light to moderately complex equipment and vehicles in support of the construction, repair, and maintenance of City streets, sidewalks, storm drains, water distribution systems, and sewer collection systems. Working under the direction of Crew Leads, this position also assists with manual labor tasks, routine equipment servicing, and general maintenance of City property and facilities.

  • Operate light to moderately complex equipment such as skid steers, compactors, trenchers, small backhoes, dump trucks, mowers, and street sweepers to support construction and maintenance activities.
  • Perform manual labor as needed, including shoveling, lifting, carrying materials, removing concrete or asphalt, cleaning work sites, and handling tools.
  • Function as a spotter when Crew Leads perform excavation near utilities to help avoid damage.
  • Maintain cleanliness of City infrastructure and property, including mowing, trimming, and weed control around wells, towers, lift stations, signs, curbs, and City facilities.
  • Clean and paint streets, curbs, parking areas, and City signs to ensure safety and visibility.
  • Perform routine inspection, fueling, cleaning, and minor servicing of assigned equipment; report mechanical issues or damage to supervisors.
  • Load, unload, and transport tools, materials, and supplies to job sites as directed.
  • Assist with cleanup of spills, storm damage, and other public works hazards.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily work performed and materials used as assigned.
  • Follow all safety procedures and work cooperatively with Crew Leads, coworkers, and the public.
  • Respond to call-outs, emergencies, or after-hours work as directed by the Crew Lead or Public Works Director.
  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), class B with air brakes and tanker endorsement, from the State of Missouri, or the ability to obtain one within a year of hire date

The starting wage is $17.77 an hour.

Police Officer

MUST BE MISSOURI P.O.S.T. CERTIFIED

The City of Nevada Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. This is a full-time position with a starting wage of $20.49 per hour.

Police Officers are responsible for enforcing laws, protecting life and property, responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, conducting patrols, investigating crimes and traffic accidents, preparing reports, making arrests, testifying in court, and engaging in community policing efforts.

This position comes with a full benefits package, including retirement, health, dental, vision, and life insurance, paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave. The Police Department also participates in a take-home vehicle program.

Required Competencies:

  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local laws, codes, and ordinances related to criminal and traffic enforcement, arrests, search and seizure, and courtroom testimony
  • Strong investigative and analytical skills, including interviewing, fact-gathering, and report writing for use in legal proceedings
  • Effective decision-making and critical thinking under pressure, with the ability to de-escalate conflicts and respond appropriately in high-stress situations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with the public, coworkers, and outside agencies, including the ability to testify confidently in court and provide clear instructions in the field

Applicants must be Missouri P.O.S.T. certified, possess a valid driver’s license, and successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation, including physical and psychological evaluations. Candidates must be able to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-backs.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I

The City of Nevada is accepting applications for the position of WWTP Operator I. This is a full-time position with a starting wage of $17.77 per hour.

The WWTP Operator I performs entry-level work assisting with the operation and maintenance of the City’s wastewater treatment facilities. Duties include operating and monitoring treatment equipment, assisting with inspections and routine maintenance, collecting and testing wastewater samples, maintaining records, and supporting senior operators to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations. This position is part of a career progression series with opportunities for advancement.

Required Competencies:

  • Knowledge of basic safety standards and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in wastewater operations
  • Understanding of the general purpose and function of wastewater collection and treatment systems
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately while performing assigned tasks
  • Skill in collecting wastewater samples and performing routine laboratory testing under established procedures
  • Ability to operate pumps, blowers, valves, and other wastewater system equipment under supervision
  • Maintains accurate records of sampling, maintenance, and system operations for reporting and compliance
  • Performs physical labor including lifting, digging, climbing, and working in confined, wet, or odorous environments

Applicants must possess or be able to obtain a Class B CDL with air brake endorsement within one year of hire and possess or be able to obtain a Class D Wastewater Operator Certification within one year of hire. Candidates must be able to perform physically demanding work in indoor and outdoor environments, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs as required.
