Animal Shelter Assistant/ Part-Time

The City of Nevada is currently accepting job applications for a part-time position of Animal Shelter Assistant.  Eligible applicants must possess a high school diploma or the equivalent and be at least 18 years of age.  Applicants to be considered should also have experience in the handling and care of domestic and non-domestic animals and good verbal and written communication skills.

 Some of the duties of this position include: 

  • Care and feeding of animals
  • Maintenance of animal shelter, equipment and facilities
  • Animal adoption processing
  • Assisting in animal health care procedures
  • Preparation of reports and other documentation for record keeping 

 Primary work days are weekends as well as fill-in hours to cover other shifts on an “as-needed” basis.  

 The starting wage for this position is $12.30 an hour.

Meter Reader-Lt. Equipment Operator

The City of Nevada is currently accepting applications for a Meter Reader/Lt Equipment Operator position. 

We are looking for a detail oriented individual with the ability to perform skilled and/or semi-skilled work in connection with the installation, repair, and maintenance of the complete water distribution system. Eligible applicants must possess a high-school diploma or equivalent, and have possession of a valid Class B or Missouri Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brakes and tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain one within the first year of employment.

Some of the duties of this position include:

  • Reads water meters assigned to the route scheduled
  • Makes sure the equipment is operating properly
  • Reports problems so repairs can be made
  • Performs the duties of the Service Person when necessary
  • Works with assigned crew when not reading meters
  • Performs semi–skilled and/or skilled work with skid steer, trencher, jack hammer, compactor, compressor, and other equipment of comparable size
  • Assists in the general maintenance work related to the job of repairing, installing and maintenance of the water distribution system
  • Performs the duties of other employees in times of illness and or vacation
  • Participates in “call out” system and is subject to call in at anytime for assistance
  • Moves objects in excess of 100 pounds

The starting wage is $15.68.  It includes full benefits with paid health, dental, vision and life insurance, retirement and vacation and sick leave.

Lt. Equipment Operator

The City of Nevada is currently accepting applications for a Light Equipment Operator for construction of the water distribution and sewer collection systems and street work.

The applicants must be able to operate light equipment, (and heavy equipment when needed), perform the skilled and semi-skilled labor associated with the job requirements and perform other job functions as required. Job duties include but are not restricted to:

  • Perform semi-skilled to skilled work with skid steer, trencher, jackhammer, compactor, compressor, and other equipment of comparable size
  • Operate heavy and other equipment calling for higher levels of skill as required and at the supervisor’s discretion
  • Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, climb, twist, kneel and reach both to ground level and overhead; lifts and carries up to 100 pounds and /or pushes up to 150 pounds as required
  • Assist in the construction of the water distribution system and sewer collection system; and repairing, installation, and maintenance of the City streets
  • Ability to work effectively with supervisors, employees and the public
  • May be required to work weekends or a variety of shifts, subject to call out on emergencies as needed 24 hours a day-year round, and may be on call as directed by the Field Operations Manager
  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), class B with air brakes and tanker endorsement, from the State of Missouri, or the ability to obtain one within a year of hire date

POSITION AVAILABLE:  LIBRARY ASSISTANT / YOUTH SERVICES 

HOURS/DAYS:  Part-time (16-20 hours/week) DEADLINE

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:  Provides friendly, high-quality customer service to library patrons. Responsible for circulation, clerical, and technical duties.     Additional duties will include assisting with NPL’s youth programs.

SUPERVISION:  Circulation Supervisor, Executive Director    

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  A minimum of a GED or high school diploma is required.            

HEALTH:  Performs bending, squatting, kneeling, and reaching from the floor level to 6 feet in height.Requires standing and walking for lengthy periods.Displays good coordination and mobility.Routine lifting of library materials weighing up to 30 pounds.        

DISPOSITION:  Must be self-motivated, adaptable, eager & able to learn.  Must be able to represent the library in a positive manner.  Has a pleasant, professional demeanor.  Has the ability to work well with the public & co-workers.            

SKILLS:  Experience in customer service.  Basic knowledge of circulation and library functions is preferred.  Ability to proficiently work with office equipment.  Proficient in basic computer use and operations.  Excellent communication skills, oral and written.                           

TRANSPORTATION:  Must have reliable transportation to and from work.        

HOURLY WAGE:  Commensurate with experience.
